Wedding Styling // Decoding Themes
It’s often something thrown around when planning a wedding – whats your style/theme? So many things come from a theme – venues, florals, decor and of course – the dress! In an age where styles can be convoluted and mashed together and words bandied around, we break down the traits of 6 different wedding styles and the gowns we have to match – without the words vintage chic in sight! There’s plenty more styles – but these are our favourites!
As it sounds, traditional is classic, tailored and formal. But by no means does this mean plain, traditional weddings can be the most extravagant! Think formal, sit down, an abundance of florals and a classic white gown. Its the style of wedding that will never date in 10, 20, 50 years.
Gowns: Charlotte, Diana, Lena, Neroli, Taylor
Vintage Styling is all about the lace! Vintage can lend itself to a few decades – the roaring 20’s, the retro styling of the 50’s and 60s or the laidback 70’s. Colour palettes are generally pastels and neutrals, such as blush pink, mint green, light blue, ivory, and gray. In a modern setting this gives off the shabby chic vibe styled with hessian, hanging bunting, doilies and pearls. For gown inspiration think all over laces such as the french collection Belfort, or gowns that cinch in at the waist such as Iona or Bianca – the hailspot is a massive hallmark to the 50’s era!
Gowns: Iona, Bianca, Carlie, Belfort, Diana
A Bohemian Wedding is like pages from a mythical woodland enchanted book. Boho Chic Weddings have a distinct soft and romantic feel that is earthy and inspired by nature and the beautiful outdoors. … Braids, greenery, flowers, soft waves, and long hair are beautiful bohemian hair styles. Although it embraces a sense of flowing liberty in décor choices and can be associated with eclectic colours

You might think Boho and Rustic are the same thing but there are some very large difference. Rustic focuses on the countryside, it embraces nature-inspired textures, simple and earthy colours. It can also lend itself to italian styling, focusing on rugged and raw beauty, think vineyards of Tuscany! Ultimately an unpretentious, organic, handcrafted.
Gowns: For gown inspo – its all about the laces and applique embellishments, with contrasting linings in nudes, champagnes and lattes! This creates a depth in texture to elevate the gown and make it at one with the surroundings. Examples include Harper, Yolande, Pippa, Saffron
A relatively new concept to weddings over the last couple of years. Industrial styled weddings take place in venues that are converted spaces, often warehouses with exposed materials such as brickwork, concrete and metals. Styling is raw and edgy with greys and neutrals featuring prominently in colour palettes. Gowns can follow this palette in off white colours or contrast to the surrounds. They can either be structured such as Tia or Vika or soft and ornate like ‘Lexi’.
Not just restricted to home styling, Hamptons is taking over wedding themes with its casual yet sophisicated beach styling. It is relaxed and luxe all at once. Colour palettes are crisp whites and greens. Venues can be seaside or hinterland and still lend to the theme. Perfect example being Summergrove Estate or Figtree in Byron Bay. For gown styling our effortless beauties Jeanne, Anisa, Ariel, Emma Louise, Geneva with their relaxed fits and delicate details are the perfect combination for this theme.
