Real Wedding: Lauren + Anthony
Its a fair assumption for us to make when a bride chooses one of our floral dresses, there is a bold personality behind the person wearing it, or as Lauren says herself...unique! Lauren and Anthony's larger than life personalities shine through in every facet of their day. After a few false starts and postponements made this incredible wedding happen in under a month and it absolutely proves that for an epic wedding, all you need to be is true to yourselves as a couple and surround yourselves with the people you love.
The Meet Cute
We met in 2011 doing an amateur production of 'A Very Potter musical'. Shortly after we both landed spots studying musical theatre at the Conservatorium of Music and it was love from the very beginning!
I was on tour in Japan performing in 'Singin' in the Rain'. Anthony travelled over to visit me. On my day off, we travelled to Nikko Japan, to a beautiful town with snow caped mountains. I had absolutely no clue what was coming. Anthony's sister and brother-in-law were with us. Hannah, Anthony's sister, had brought the ring over from Vietnam with her. We were right by a sheer drop near a babbling brook posing for silly photos when Anthony got down on one knee. I just remember saying "Are you serious?!" a lot! It was a very magical setting and the moment was caught on camera which is super fun to look back on.
Wendy's boutique was only the 2nd I had visited. I had been to one the day before and tried on a dress but it did nothing for me. When I arrived at Wendy's the original Daphne dress was in the window and immediately, I knew that was it, that was my dress. This was in 2018! Wendy and the crew stood by me as multiple obstacles got in the way of our wedding over the years - travelling internationally for work, then a pandemic. I love a high neckline so decided to modify the style a little in 2020 and finally in 2021 we made it happen!
Wendy and the team are professional and incredibly experienced. They guide you and support you every step of the way while being very honest. For us it was very easy because there was no doubt that this was my dress from the very beginning! The dress really encapsulates my personality and still today, guests remark and comment on how beautiful and unique the dress was.
Originally we were going to get married in late 2018 but postponed due to a big career opportunity overseas. Then, we were set to get married in July 2020... the pandemic put a stop to that! We weren't sure what to do considering the crazy state of the world. We visited our families in Brisbane over Christmas and decided to bite the bullet while we could. We abandoned a lot of our original plans and instead planned a whole new wedding with only 3.5 weeks notice. It ended up being exactly what we wanted. Heaps of fun, very relaxed and joyous!
With very little notice we had a ceremony at Cherbon Waters in Burbank. It's a beautiful hidden setting with glorious views and beautiful gardens. There was a sun shower in the middle of our ceremony (we were undercover) and it was just beautiful. Our Reception was at Canvas Club in Woolloongabba. We had the whole venue to ourselves, cocktails style, a cute courtyard, dancefloor, mini stage for band and lots of quirky and fun drink and food options on the menu which were personalised for us! The providers went above and beyond to make our wedding happen with very little notice and it was an incredible night for all.
It was a very non-traditional, informal event and it was our aim to create a day which would reflect us. Those who know us well know that we are quite the unique pair. Our ceremony was hilarious it was filled with jokes, music, even Anthony had a go at walking down the aisle. We have our own children's show called Story Surprise. Mick, the Story Surprise Teddy Bear acted as 'Ring Bear' on the day providing lots of laughs for all.
For our first dance we also sung and performed in only the way Lauren & Anthony can. All our friends joined in creating a singing flash mob.
It was the first time in a long time many family and friends were coming together after Covid and it definitely felt like a celebration.
Anthony is a man of simple pleasures. For a long time we joked that all he wanted for our wedding cake was a Coles sponge cake.
We decided to go to a little more effort and got a 'pieCaken' from Pie Town in West End. A 'piecaken' is two dessert pies hidden inside a cake. It was awesome! As a surprise for Anthony, I organised a classic Coles sponge cake as well and just as we cut our official cake, the chef brought out the Coles sponge too. It was hilarious.
The Favourite Part
It's so hard to choose, the whole day was so epic. Our ceremony was extra special, especially because of our personal it was. Our celebrant, Annette did such an incredible job of creating a ceremony which reflected us perfectly. Anthony says his favourite part was seeing me walk down the aisle, nawwh!
By the end of the night, I remember being exhausted but our hearts were so full. It was so special to have our family and friends together, especially after Covid, for such a special and memorable celebration. The day was absolutely perfect and we love looking at our photos and the video footage to relive the day!
There is definitely no 'right way' to do it. It doesn't matter what others think or how they feel. This is your special day with your partner. What is important is the experience of the day. You want to be able to enjoy it. Sometimes fancy chandeliers and fine china simply can't make for a beautiful wedding. What really matters is the memories you create, the people you are there and that you can enjoy the day.
