Real Wedding // Soni + Brodie // Fiji Wedding
Whilst this wedding was at the end of last year its still one of our favourites! Our beautiful friend Soni married her soulmate Brodie at Musket Cove Resort in one of the most swoonworthy back drops you could imagine! It seems fitting we put this on the blog this week as the beautiful couple have just announce a new addition coming into the world in October!
How did you and your partner meet?
That’s a very funny story. Brodie was my pash-and-dash one night out partying with my best friend. We linked eyes across the dance floor and I knew he would be the guy I pash and then dash. Although I wasn’t very good a dashing obviously!!
Was there a proposal? Tell us about it!
We were over in Los Angeles and it was our 2nd last day of holidays, so I had pretty much given up on the thought that Brodie would propose. We had a beautiful day riding our bikes down Venice Beach, a gorgeous dinner and Champagne, followed by an impromptu visit to a pop-up Ice Skating Rink, where Brodie skated ahead and dropped down to one knee in front of the hundreds of other skaters. It was very romantic, and the song “Sky Full of Stars – Coldplay” just happened to be playing, so we found “our song” that night too, which we danced to on our wedding night.
How did you find your dress?
It was probably the 3rd visit to Wendy’s store that I saw it on the display model. It didn’t inspire me at first glace, but once it was on I knew it was the one.
Why did you choose Wendy Makin?
Wendy and Geoff are old clients of mine. Once I met them both, and saw their passion and how hard they worked, I knew straight away that they would be looking after me when I did get married.
How was your Wendy Makin experience?
Perfect! I did visit 3 times before I found the dress, and Wendy Makin and her staff are very accommodating and patient. Champagne visits on a Saturday are the best!
Where was the wedding and reception?
The Wedding was held at Musket Cove Resort at Malolo Lailai Island in Fiji. The reception was also held at the same venue.
How did aspects of the wedding reflect you and your partner?
Brodie and I have always wanted a wedding by the ocean. We both love the beach and the relaxed vibe it brings. So having an outdoor wedding on an island really gave a gorgeous, relaxed vibe amongst all our friends and family.
Were there any funny stories for the day?
So many. Firstly I was so nervous, I forgot my bouquet!! Luckily the wedding planner saw immediately and i ran back inside to grab it.
Secondly, it was raining!! So as I was walking down the isle with my father, I was trying to rush through the rain, but my dad held me arm tight and slowed me down and whispered to me to focus to the words of the song playing as I walked down the isle. My mum had packed these umbrelllas she found at a garage sale just-in-case, I didn’t think they were cute at all!! I was so glad she packed them that day, and they did turn out quite cute!
Brodie’s groomsmen has also never put on a flower button-hole before. So when I met Brodie at the altar, I noticed his flower was tucked into the pocket!! I wanted to fix it then and there but had to wait until after the ceremony. I can’t help but laugh about it now when i look back on photos.
When my father was giving his speech, he was reading off a script my mother wrote, and she put a few prompts in the speech (e.g. wait for applause, pause, look at Brodie and Soni), and when he was giving the speech, he actually read one of the prompts out aloud, which was “look at Brodie and Soni”. At the time it flowed quite well with the speech but when I found out it was a prompt later on, it all made sense for the awkward look everyone gave us at that moment.
What was your favourite part of the day?
The first dance! Brodie and I taught ourselves a dance from YouTube, and practised like crazy in our loungroom leading up to the wedding. We asked our bridal party to join us halfway through the song, so when everybody came and joined us inn dancing it was such a euphoric moment.
Another really special memory: My mum had re-written the lyrics to the song “hallelujah” to include Brodie and my story, and secretly asked our string band to learn the words and sing it as I walked down the isle. It was a really special moment.
How did you feel at the end of the day?
Elated. Full of Love and Life. It was the best thing do date that we have done, and to share it with friends and family was even better.
